Jane jacobs textile artist

Beginning on this crazy journey of starting my own business and what I like to call my “project” turns out to be more like a work in progress!

I met a very interesting and lovely person named Jane Jacobs. I have known Jane's daughter since I was in grade five but met Jane only seven months ago.

Jane is a textile artist who knows her stuff, especially when it comes to indigo and the art of shibori dyeing!

After my first few dyes I met with Jane and found out I was making a few rookie mistakes. Not folding the right way and trying to use cut up diaper boxes as the shapes. (Apparently cut up diaper boxes don’t hold up well in the dying process – who knew?! ☺)

We also talked for hours about the projects we were working on and trying to make it as an artist and entrepreneur.

Since then, I have learned a lot from Jane and enjoy our time working together.

I love her basement studio! It’s full of everything you never knew you could use to dye fabrics. She has baskets of dried flowers, bowls of maple leaves, binds of coloured wool and buckets of rusty iron fences. All used to create beautiful textiles!

How lucky am I to not only have a great teacher but to have gained a friend?!
